Honors Advising Center

Each semester, Honors students are required to meet with an advisor to discuss program requirements, general education requirements, capstone ideas, etc.

David Kime, Coordinator of Advising, meets with:

  • Graduating Seniors to complete the Program Certification Form (due October 8th for students graduating in May).
  • All students preparing to begin the Capstone project in the following semester.
  • All UVS Undeclared Honors Students (meet with David instead of an AARC advisor).
  • Any other students with special concerns, or who are unable to meet with a Peer Advisor.

David has "walk-in" office hours Monday through Friday 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Honors House room 008. David will post weekly schedules outside his office to facilitate appointment reservations.

The Peer Advising Program

The Peer Advising Program was started in the spring semester of 2008 to allow upperclassmen within the Honors Program the opportunity to advise other Honors students. The peer advisors focus on advising freshmen and sophomores (note: all UVS Undeclared students meet with David Kime). For the spring 2012 semester, second semester students (student who completed HNR 101 in the fall 2011 semester) are required to meet with one of the peer advisors before course registration. Students may sign up for an appointment on the schedules outside the Peer Advising room, Honors House 007.

Jena Bradley

My name is Jena’ Bradley. I am a junior at the University, pursuing a double major in Political Science and International Studies as well as a Certificate of Civic Engagement, while earning the minor in Honors. Upon graduating, I hope to do something awesome, like join the Peace Corps, or become best friends with Chef Gordon Ramsay, but both of these are still up for debate. My passions include reading textbooks, watching foreign films, baking, and of course, Chef Gordon Ramsay (with Robert De Niro as a close second). There is so much I love about the Honor’s Program, from the small classes, to the amazing opportunities it has to offer! Being an Honor’s student is being a part of an amazing society of individuals motivated about life and learning, and how those go hand-in-hand. Last semester, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Romania, and being an Honor’s student definitely aided in making me a more appealing applicant! As one of your peer advisors this academic year, I hope that I can aid you in your educational journey at NKU and in the Honor’s Program. In addition, if you want to see some really neat pictures from Romania and Hungary or get more information on the studying abroad process, I’m good for that too. Get Excited!

Erica Amato

My name is Erica Amato and I am a junior at NKU. I am a Biochemistry major with minors in math and honors. After I graduate with my undergraduate degree, I plan on going to medical school. I am currently working on a Breast Cancer research project in the science department here at NKU. I plan on starting my capstone in the spring and I am hoping to have my project be centered on my research. I have met some of my current best friends in the honors program and I want to help every honors student have the same kind of experience that I did with my fellow honors classmates. As a peer advisor I feel like I will be able to help honor students make their time in the honors program a memorable one.

Carly Strohmaier

Hi, my name is Carly Strohmaier. I am a junior Bioloy/Pre-med major with minors in chemistry, honors, and music. After I graduate from NKU I hope to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician. In addition to my love of science, I have a great passion for music. In my spare time, I enjoy playing my classical and acoustic guitars, discovering new music, and attending concerts at local venues. I am also an avid reader and love arts and crafts. If I were not a biology major, I would choose to be a graphic design major. This is also my third year in the honors program. I love the small class sizes and the wide range of topics that honors courses feature. Our program allows you to form intimate connections with your professors and peers. I have great enthusiasm about our program and the students who are involved in it. I look forward to getting acquainted with more honors students as I serve this year as an honors peer advisor.
