I was brought up primarily in Sharonville and was
in the second graduating class at
Princeton High School (1960). I got a scholarship from Cincinnati
Milling Machine Company
(now Cincinnati Milacron) to attend the University of Cincinnati,
graduating with a BSEE
in 1965. Deciding that sunshine would be nice, I then won a NASA
traineeship to Arizona
State University where I received an MSE in 1967. I worked on my
doctorate at the
University of Minnesota and the University of Missouri - Columbia
before returning to
Cincinnati in 1970.
My practical education ...
While at U.C., I participated in the cooperative
program and worked at Cincinnati
Millling Machine Company as a part of their apprentice program (at that
time, one of the
best in the world), running machine tools, repairing electrical
equipment, assembling
machines, and learning about all of the departments in the company.
In 1966, I accepted a job with Honeywell
Aerospace and Defense Division in Minneapolis
and worked in the Systems and Research Center on computer-related
systems for NASA and
DOD.
After attending the University of Missouri -
Columbia, I returned to Cincinnati
Milacron in 1970 to offer digital and computer expertise for their
first
computer-controlled injection molding machine and a new industrial
robot product. In 1980,
I transferred to Milacron's Electronic Systems Division where I was a
manager in their
engineering department.
I accepted a job with General Electric Aircraft
Engines in 1983 as Unit Manager of
Flexible Automation and Robotics, overseeing the installation of
automation systems in
their manufacturing areas. In 1985 I joined the Institute of Advanced
Manufacturing
Systems (IAMS) as a Projects Manager to assist in moving advanced
techniques into small
businesses, and in 1988 I came to NKU as the first faculty line in
their new engineering
technology programs.
Personally speaking ...
I am happily married to Kris and am a proud father to two sons and two daughters. I have seven grandchildren and am truly happy when I get to spend time with them. I believe in God and Jesus Christ and am active in the Mt. Washington United Methodist Church. I love to play pool, used to love playing tennis (until I had a hip replacement!), enjoy reading, listening to all sorts of music, dabbling with computers (both hardware and software), and walking. I am truly blessed to have such a loving family and to have such a teaching job at NKU!
I am currently in the second year of a three-year phased-retirement program at NKU where I only teach in the fall semesters. My wife and I spend a part of each year in Prescott, Arizona, where we own a second home. While not working at NKU, I have still taught web-based courses as an adjunct. I plan to continue teaching on a part-time basis even when I am completely retired!
