Student Organizations

The History & Geography Department strongly supports three active student organizations and encourages membership in the groups.

Alpha Beta Phi is an award-winning chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honor society. Our chapter has won numerous awards for publishing Perspectives in History, a scholarly journal on historic topics. The members also sponsor field trips and lectures in conjunction with the department.

Geography Education Organization for Students (GEOS) has members who are geography and history majors as well as students from outside the department. GEOS sponsors field trips, social activities and service opportunities, including displays for the annual National Geography Awareness Week in November. Faculty sponsors offer GEOS members the opportunity to get involved in research activities that lead to scholarly publications.

Geography Union of Northern Kentucky (GUNK) is a student organization open to anyone with an interest in geography. The group's activities mainly involve field trips. In recent years, the group has traveled to St. Louis, Toronto and Atlanta.
