Student Awards

Each year the History & Geography Department recognizes its outstanding students with the following awards: 

W. Frank Steely Award

Named for the university's first president and former faculty member in the History & Geography Department, this award is presented to the graduating history or social studies/secondary education major who best exemplifies scholarship, historical awareness and involvement in department activities. NOMINATION FORM.


Outstanding Graduate Award in Geography

This award goes to the graduating senior in geography who excelled in their studies and was an active participant in campus activities such as the Geography Union of Northern Kentucky (GUNK) student group.


Jeffrey A Smith Memorial Award

The department's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honor society, presents this award to the author of the best article published in the "Perspectives in History" journal.


H. Lew Wallace Award

Established in memory of the department's first chairman, this award is presented to an outstanding junior history major in the form of a gift certificate to the NKU bookstore.


Leon Boothe Community Service Award in History/Social Studies

Award recognizes student involvement in community services with off-campus organizations and other activities which demonstrate leadership. NOMINATION FORM.
