Bachelor of Arts in History

To attain a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, students must complete 39 semester hours of course work in the subject with a grade of C or above in each class.

A student's grade-point average for all courses counted toward the major must be 2.5 or above to be considered for graduation.

History majors are also required to submit a senior portfolio of written work completed in history courses at NKU. The portfolio will be submitted in the final semester before graduation.

The course requirements for a history degree include:

Survey course sequences (12 hours)

HIS 100-101 or HIS 108-109
HIS 102-103 or HIS 106-107

NOTE: Students who successfully complete HIS 194 Honors Seminar need to complete only two additional survey courses. But they must take an additional upper-division course to complete the requisite 39 semester hours for the major.

Upper-division courses (30 hours)

One upper-division course in United States history
One upper-division course in European history
One upper-division course in non-western history
HIS 385 - Art and Method of History
Two upper-division courses in race and/or gender history
Three additional upper-division history courses

One upper-division geography course
