Bachelor of Arts in History
To attain a Bachelor of Arts in History, students must complete 42 semester hours of course work in the subject with a grade of C or above in each class.
A student's grade-point average for all courses counted toward the major must be 2.5 or above to be considered for graduation.
History majors are also required to submit a senior portfolio of written work completed in history courses at NKU. The portfolio will be submitted in the final semester before graduation.
The course requirements for a history degree include:
Survey course sequences (12 hours)
- Either:
- HIS 100 - History of Europe to 1713
- HIS 101 - History of Europe since 1713
- Or:
- HIS 108 - World History to 1500
- HIS 109 - World History since 1500
- Either:
- HIS 102 - History of the US to 1877
- HIS 103 - History of the US since 1877
- Or:
- HIS 106 - History of Afro-Americans to 1877
- HIS 107 - History of Afro-Americans since 1877
NOTE: Students who successfully complete HIS 194 Honors Seminar need to complete only two additional survey courses. But they must take an additional upper-division course to complete the requisite 42 semester hours for the major.
