I came to Northern after receiving a Master's degree from the University of Cincinnati. My undergraduate degree is from Auburn University in Alabama. I also spent some time in Florence, Italy at the University of Syracuse's program there where I studied Italian language and film. Most of my family lives in Baton Rouge but my daughter lives in Boulder, Colorado so when I'm not working I'm either in Baton Rouge, Boulder or traveling in Europe!
At Northern I have taught European and American survey courses. My special interests include immigration to the United States and World War II. I have done research at Martlesham Heath, which is the site of a former RAF base that was loaned to the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII to use as a base for fighters to escort bombers into Germany. |
Many of the locals became friends with or had other memories of these GI's and were glad to share their experiences with me. I became interested in this because my father was a P-47 pilot at this base in WWII and he and others from the 356th Fighter Group began to have reunions a few years ago.
I am a Freshman Specialist and advise all freshman history and social studies majors. Please stop by my office if you are interested in becoming a history major! I also teach in many Learning Communities. My passions are travel, tennis and photography (mostly of my travels!).
