Geo 360: Historical Urban Geography

This class investigates historical and spatial characteristics of the city. Course content is divided into several areas of concentration. The first deals with aspects contributing to origins and spatial characteristics of ancient cities in different cultures. The second aspect concerns the evolution and land use characteristics of different types of cities; for example medieval and industrial cities. The final aspect investigates specific physical and social dimensions of European and North American cities. The rise of city planning and differing philosophical approaches to the planning of the city will also be studies. Morphology and architectural development are examined as well.
