Public
Engagement
The Center's main activities will include
programs that support the following Northern Kentucky University Core
Values. Specifically, the Center will promote

-
Public Engagement through
sponsorship of traveling exhibits, a lecture series, and eventually
a speaker's bureau
-
Learner-Centered Education by
providing faculty, students, and community members with a lending
library and free access to all types of resources; supplying teachers
with age-appropriate materials and training; offering in-school programs
and activities for grades 5-12
-
Multiculturalism by
promoting open dialogue and interpretations of the complex cultural,
historical, political, and philosophical issues connected with Holocaust
studies
-
Innovation and Creativity by
supporting university-level courses in the humanities, the Institute
for Freedom Studies, the Honors Program, and Women's Studies that
encourage students to explore the Holocaust's significance through
interdisciplinary approaches
Center programs will emphasize teacher
training and professional development through workshops conducted by
experts in Holocaust education
as well as curricula created by numerous state councils on Holocaust
education and foundations for Holocaust research. Faculty from the Northern
Kentucky University College of Education, particularly those involved
with pre-service teachers in language arts and social studies, are available
to contribute their expertise.
The Center also will
engage in community partnerships, particularly with the Northern Kentucky
Interfaith Commission and The Holocaust and Humanity Center at Hebrew
Union College in Cincinnati, as well as the Association of Holocaust
Organizations, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington,
D.C.
