Educational Programs and Resources
HERC’s educational outreach program
is designed to involve local middle schools and high schools in Holocaust
studies. Students will be able to learn from sponsored events and speakers
and to participate in interdisciplinary humanities projects.
This Center strongly supports multicultural education
in our region.
We provide:
-
A service for classroom
teachers to meet state educational standards in language arts and
social studies. In particular, we wish to address the needs of rural
school districts that lack funding to purchase materials or conduct
workshops.
-
Resources for different age groups stressing
themes of tolerance, diversity, and prejudice reduction
-
Relevant
materials for research and instruction for post-secondary faculty
and students in northern Kentucky institutions
Northern
Kentucky University is the only post-secondary institution in the state offering
a substantive, centralized resource center devoted to Holocaust
studies. Educators interested in more specialized training in
Holocaust topics and activities should contact the Center Director,
Nancy Kersell, for more information about how to introduce the
study of the Holocaust in language arts and social studies through
a creative, interdisciplinary approach. Mandel Fellows and other
local teachers are being trained to assist local school districts
in curriculum development, community/adult programs, and student
art/writing contests.
