Universal Precautions - use of protective clothing to protect skin and face from
contamination. PSYCHOLOGICAL CRISIS OR DISTRESS Psychological Crisis A
psychological crisis exists when an individual threatens harm to herself/himself
or to others, manifested by extreme behaviors. Immediately do what is necessary to keep yourself safe and then notify Public Safety at ext. 7777. Provide your name and location for officers to respond to the situation. A public safety officer will then notify the Director of Health, Counseling and Prevention Services.
CAUTION: NEVER TRY TO HANDLE A SITUATION ON YOUR OWN THAT IS POTENTIALLY
DANGEROUS. Psychological Distress Should you become aware of someone whose capacity to cope has become overwhelmed to the point that they can no longer function effectively (experiencing uncontrollable crying, severe withdrawal, speaking in general terms of harming self), call Health, Counseling and Prevention Services at ext. 5650 during regular business hours (8:15am - 4:30pm). After hours contact Public Safety at ext.7777 (who will then contact the Director of Health, Counseling and Prevention Services). Note: There are psychological consequences to each and every emergency. Health, Counseling and Prevention staff are available assist in these situations.
