MV9 (Updated 10/21/2009 05:49 PM )

I have an interest in web-based learning about financial markets--particularly w.r.t. college students.  In fact, I've done some research in this area, some of which has been published

This semester we’ll be doing MV9.  MV is short for Minyanville.  My Wall Street friend Todd Harrison founded Minyanville to help individuals better understand how markets work so that better financial decisions can be made.  The nine in MV9 signifies that this is the ninth in a string of projects we’ve done.

I've been helping Todd develop Minyanville's presence in the university community.  We have a UMV section of the website dedicated to the college crowd.  It's designed to help people who are new to markets learn gradually while staying connected to the market flow (important for learning).  Our work suggests that students can increase their financial market awareness with 30 - 45 minutes of weekly exposure to content posted on the UMV page.  Currently, we're engaged in an effort to get Minyanville into more college classrooms as a learning supplement.

One thing we want to do on the UMV page is create opportunities for more interaction.  This is where this extra credit project comes in.  You can earn up to 4 points of extra credit for doing the following.

Go to the UMV page on the Minyanville website.  If you're having trouble the UMV page, you'll find a link on the drop down menu under the Life and Money section.

Click the article posted under the Give & Take module.  After reading the article background, use the Post a Comment function at the bottom of the page to submit a replay, comment, etc.  When you go to do this the first time, you'll be asked to register (it's quick).

During at least 4 weeks from late October thru early December, a new Give & Take article will be posted.  You'll earn a point of extra credit for each one if a) you post a comment on it and b) write me a memo (due the last day of class) that summarizes which articles you commented on and what you liked/didn't like about the experience.
