MV5 (Updated 04/24/2007 10:29 PM )"The most valuable commodity I know of is information. Wouldn't you agree?"--Gordon Gekko (Wall Street) News Updates on MV54/24/07 9:15 pm. The MV5 project has been completed. Thanks to all who participated. Hope you found it worthwhile. 4/19/07 6:20 pm. We'll wrap up MV5 during the final week of class. We'll administer the second questionnaire, and you'll submit your completed logsheets at this time. 4/14/07 10:40 am. One week to go in MV5. We'll administer the second questionnaire on Monday, April 23rd. You will also submit your completed logsheets at this time. 3/23/07 3:15 pm. Approximately one month left in MV5. Your goal is to put in a 'good faith effort' at one hour per week for reading content on the UMV page. Even if you can't put in an hour per week, I'll take whatever you can give me. Just remember to complete your timesheets honestly (please don't over report your time spent). 2/15/07 5:25 pm. Make sure you complete your logsheet upon visiting the UMV page. Again, please be honest in your accounting. I need accurate logsheets for the research to be meaningful. You'll submit your completed logsheet at the end of the project. 1/31/07 5:50 pm. It's game on for MV5. The initial questionnaire has been administered. Make sure you register. As noted in the project background, I'm hoping that you'll make a good faith effort to head to the university page once per week and read the content (if you want to do more, please feel free). Also, remember to accurately record your actions on the logsheet. Please ping me w/ any questions you might have. 1/30/07 4:45 pm. We'll be administering the initial MV5 questionnaire after class this week. If you want to participant in MV5, you need to complete it. BackgroundThis research builds on four previous projects aimed at investigating the link between student exposure to online financial expertise and development of financial market awareness. Previous projects have produced interesting (and publishable) findings. Similar to previous projects, the source of the online financial expertise will be the Minyanville website. My Wall Street friend Todd Harrison founded Minyanville nearly 5 years ago with the aim to help individuals better understand how markets work so that better financial decisions could be made. (btw, Toddo and fellow Minyanville professor John Succo swung by NKU for a town hall meeting not long ago) Unlike previous projects, we'll be working directly off the university page on the Minyanville website. The objective will be to evaluate student learning based on exposure to various modules that will be updated weekly. The modules focus on structured lessons, financial lingo, connections to current events, and technical analysis, among others. Give & Get...Participants will need to:
Participants that complete the above requirements will receive 10 points of extra credit applied towards the final exam. Good Faith EffortWhat I'm asking for is a good faith effort to put in the time on this project. Because a key source of data for this research project comes from your self-reported effort on the logsheet, it is very important that you record your time spent honestly. Please don't report things you didn't do, as it will mess up the analysis.
