Confusion that never stops
The closing walls and the ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop, that you now know

MV4 Syllabus (Updated 01/22/2007 02:12 PM)

Once you've completed the first questionnaire and received your login info, its game on.  Here's what I'd like you to do during the upcoming weeks.

First week:

Remaining weeks:

If you're a hardened veteran to financial markets you might might head straight to Minyanville’s prime reality-based content streams.  News and Views are daily columns providing feature-length market insight from Minyanville’s professorshipThe premium Buzz and Banter application permits readers to peer into the minds of financial market experts as they share their thought processes in a streaming real-time format(subscribers pay for the Buzz, while other content is open access).

Chances are, however, that most newcomers will have difficulty making sense of the 'full strength' Minyanville content, in part because of the unique jargon.  Instead, I suggest that most of you focus your project time in the following areas:

  • UMV 100 series of lessons.  Each lesson is designed to take 20-30 minutes to complete.  There's a short quiz at the end of each lesson to help you assess what you've picked up.  Also, try to do the lessons in order, since there is some 'sequence' baked into them.  Note that there is a place on the time sheet to record the lessons you've done.  Record which ones you've completed in which week.  A worthy goal: Do one UMV 100 lesson per week.

  • UMV Buzz.  This is a toned down version of the Buzz and Banter that focuses on the needs of the new learner.  Each day, I look for a few posts on the Minyanville website that might be useful to college students looking to learn more about how markets work.  I link you to these posts, and offer some explanation that might help you make better sense of them.  A worthy goal: Read three UMV Buzz posts each week.

Remember to record you weekly time spent on this project on the time sheet.  As noted before, it's extremely important to our analysis that you record your time accurately.  In particular, please don't over-report your time.  If you can't put in the hour per week, no big deal.  You'll still get the extra credit.  Am just asking for a 'good faith effort' on your part.

During the last week of the term, we'll reel you back in and measure what you've learned.

Thanks again for participating and have fun.  Please ping me with questions, concerns, etc.
