COB Self-Assessment (Updated 08/08/2007 05:38 PM)MGT 415 Note: The following problem is fictitious but employs names of, and news from, real organizations. The idea is to increase the reality of the situation, and to improve your awareness of various industries and organizations. Self-assessment involves comparing your organization's processes and outcomes to an external standard in order to determine strengths and opportunities for improvement. A widely employed external standard for use in self-assessments is the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence (CPE), which has been developed in conjunction with the Baldrige National Quality Program. There are three versions of the CPE--one for business, education, and health care. Using the education CPE, I would like you to evaluate NKU's College of Business (COB) using CPE category 1.0 Leadership and category 3.0 Student, Stakeholder, and Market Focus. For each item in CPE category, note the strengths (each preceded by either a + or ++ to indicate the relative strength of each note) or opportunities for improvement (each preceded by either a - or -- to indicate the relative weakness of each note) that you perceive in COB's process. For each note, make sure you include evidence or examples of why you think this is either a strength or opportunity for improvement. Almost certainly, your analysis will need to include at least one table that houses strengths and weaknesses for each category. The Findings section of your memo should include key strengths and opportunities for improvement, as well as your recommendation of any action COB should take should the school desire to improve. Write a memo to your team leader that includes the results of your analysis.
