About Teaching Assistants

Assisting in UNV 101 gives UNV 301 students an opportunity to develop abilities they will need in work and/or graduate school. Moreover, they develop these abilities in a setting-the university-in which they become "experts."

UNV 301 students:

  • sharpen their ability to facilitate and speak in front of groups
  • develop leadership skills
  • gain classroom teaching experience

UNV 301 students are committed to helping Northern Kentucky University freshmen taking University 101 and Learning Communities cope with a new environment. Junior standing; a minimum GPA of 3.0; consent of UNV 101 instructor. To be considered, students must complete and submit an application to the Office of First-Year Programs, FH 231.

UNV 301 Student Characteristics

Students taking UNV 301 are leaders in the classroom and show keen interest in campus involvement. UNV 301 students look forward to sharing information, knowledge and skills they have learned with incoming students. Students taking 301 are open to self-exploration to pinpoint their own strengths and learning processes so that they in turn are better able to share strategies with incoming students. As role models and mentors, they demonstrate student success behaviors both in and out of the classroom.
