Let's Do Lunch!

You and your Learning Community partner(s) can meet at a time that is convenient for you to plan your Learning Community and we'll pick up the tab.*

What should your "planning lunch(es)" include?

  • Discuss your courses: What is your focus?  What are the expected outcomes for students? What are the greatest challenges for the students?
  • Discuss your policies: Absence policy, missed or make up work, late papers, etc. (so that you can be supportive and consistent)
  • Preferred means of communication:  Do you use email, prefer the phone, hand written notes? What are your expectations about communication throughout the semester
  • Opportunities for students to work across your courses: Are there assignments in one course that you can "share" or contribute by work in another course?  Are you planning to incorporate the Book Connection text?  Does your course require co-curricular events & might the other course participate in those as well?
  • Discuss your points of contact:  Will you each be listed on the other's syllabus or Blackboard course?  Will you design a shared assignment, attend the other person's class or teach a class session together?

*We'll provide a voucher for one free meal in any of the campus eateries for each Learning Community faculty participant for up to three planning meetings per Learning Community.

Please send us a brief summary of the topics you discussed and the people who attended each lunch. We want to be able to report on the wonderful plans you are making!

Call (859) 572-5913 or email Mei Mei Burr at burri@nku.edu in First-Year Programs to arrange for your lunch vouchers!
