Family  Business  Center Overview

The NKU Family Business Center (FBC) was founded in 1999 to foster the growth and preservation of privately-held and family-owned businesses in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati metropolitan region. It is one of only 130 such university-based programs in the United States and one of a handful which limits its membership strictly to family businesses.

Today the NKU FBC is a growing community of family businesses whose members gather together on a regular basis to discuss common problems, learn new skills, and acquire knowledge. The focus of the center is to provide a variety of confidential settings in which its members can learn from each other and from university and regional experts. The center’s programs and benefits include six seminars per year, periodic tours of area family businesses, monthly peer roundtables, and a subscription to Family Business Magazine.

FBC seminar topics are determined by an annual survey of the active members. For the 2003-2004 year, seminar topics will include: Managing Complex Family Relationships, Adapting Lean Concepts to Any Kind of Business, Using Financial Statements to Manage Effectively, and The Role and Value of a Board of Advisors.

There are two roundtables currently meeting: Founders/Current CEOs on the second Tuesday of the month and the Next Generation on the second Thursday of the month. Both roundtables meet at the Mark R. Herrmann Alumni Center at NKU from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.

Membership in the center is $300.00 per year for the firm, plus meal costs for the seminars. For further information, contact Sutton Landry at 859-572-6524 or by e-mail at landrys@nku.edu.
