Advising
The faculty of the Department of Literature and Language
takes seriously its responsibility to provide helpful and
accurate advising for its majors. Each new major chooses or
will be assigned a specific faculty member as an adviser.
Advisers meet regularly with the majors they advise to
assist students in schedule-planning each semester and in
fulfilling general university requirements and requirements
for the English major.
English majors should contact their advisors during the
preregistration period in both fall and spring semesters and
request an appointment for advising. Majors should make
every effort to meet with their advisers each semester at
this appointed time and whenever they feel they need advice
on academic matters.
To arrange advising conferences, English majors should
contact their adviser personally, call their faculty
advisers at the numbers listed below, or call the department
office and leave a message for an adviser to return the
call.
Regular advising conferences help minimize confusion over
requirements, scheduling conflicts, and the possibility that
certification of the major or graduation may be delayed due
to unfulfilled requirements. However, the final
responsibility for fulfilling the Catalog requirement
in the major, the minor, general studies, and other areas
rests with the students.
