United States in the War

The Beginning of WWII
Twenty years after World War I , the same enemies meet again in World War II.  On one side there is the Allied Powers which is made up of Great Britain and others members of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United States, the Soviet Union, France, and China. On the other side the Axis Powers included Germany, Italy, and Japan.  The war would start a few years earlier in Europe before the United States would declare their involvement in World War II.

United States in the War

The United States' involvement began on a bright, early Sunday morning of December 7, 1941 when the Japanese air raided the American Pacific Fleet.  United States' powerful battleships and cruisers floated at anchor at Pearl Harbor.  Suddenly Japanese torpedo planes screeched over the fleet damaging 13 ships and destroying another 188 U.S.  planes.  When the smoke cleared 2,400 Americans were dead and nearly 1,200 injured.  This marked Japan's entrance in to the war on the side of Germany and Italy.  The next day on December 8, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced that the United States will be entering the war.

Many of our families lost men to the war either through the draft or through their own patriotic fight.  No matter the case World War II was something that has touched the lives of many Americans.  These brave men had to leave their families to fight for their country and for us.

This site recognizes the men who were called to duty to fight for our country.  The accounts on this site are true.  We gathered our information through our English 101 class at Northern Kentucky University.  The people talked about on this site are family members to fellow students in our class.
