Cuban
Missile Crisis "A nation
reveals itself not only by the men it produces but also by the men it honors,
the men it remembers." --
Remarks at the dedication of the Robert Frost Library, Amherst College,
October 26, 1963, Public Papers of the Presidents: 1963, p. 816.
Jennifer Drewes -- My grandparents didn't remember much about the Cuban Missile
Crisis. Only that JFK ordered all missiles to be removed from Cuba. My
grandma said it took a long time to get it worked out and the administration
was constantly being criticized.
Andrea Yauch -- My grandmother saw his role in the Cuban Missile Crisis
in a positive way because she had an admiration for his stand. She
thought that it showed some strength.
James Proctor -- My dad only remembers getting out of school early when JFK
was shot. He remembers watching the Cuban Missile Crisis on TV most of
the time.
Jeff Manning -- My father remembers the Cuban Missile Crisis and the couple
days standoff between Kennedy and Krushchev. And the relief that followed
when the Russians backed down.
Amie Prewitt -- My father felt that Kennedy had handled the Cuban Missile
Crisis well because he forced the Russians to back down by not giving into
their threats, but my father felt that Robert Kennedy had more of an impact
in the Civil Rights Movement than JFK because of his passionate stand against
racism.
Amy Guenther -- My parents saw the Cuban Missile Crisis as neither positive
or negative.
Maryann Huhn -- My grandmother Anne did not know anything about the Cuban
Missile Crisis, but my grandfather heard about it on the radio and called
grandma to get under the workbench with the kids, thinking that it would
protect them. Grandma laughed and didn't take him seriously.
Julie Estes -- Cuban Missile Crisis - my grandpa said that JFK goofed with this.
Kevin Morath --The
Cuban Missile Crisis was a very tense time. One of my mom's sisters
was planning to get married during that time. Her finances were in
the reserves. It was a constant worry as to whether the wedding would
be interrupted because of a war breaking out with Cuba.
Michael Williams -- My father can remember the Cuban Missile
Crisis. When the crisis was over my father thought Kennedy was a
hero. Although now his mind has changed after acquiring some information.
He learned that the United States also pulled out some of their missiles
in Europe. He said that everyone thought that Kennedy had scared
off the Soviets, but in reality they had just made a deal.
