The primary focus of the Preservice Technology
Leadership Program (PTLP) involves long-term collaboration between
in-service teachers and undergraduate teacher education
students. Within this program, the teachers and students
participate in twenty-four hours of
technology training each
year. Outside of training, the teachers serve as mentors to the
students and collaborate on instructional applications of
technology.
The model used for this program is the
"train the trainer" approach. After the training and
collaboration within this program, the mentors and students are ready
to provide professional development to area educators. This
professional development may be a workshop or in-service within the
school district, technology seminar on NKU's campus, or presentation
at a technology-related conference. Travel is provided for the
teachers and students to attend the Kentucky Teaching and Learning
Conference (KTLC) in the spring of each year.
Stipends are provided to the teachers and
students for full participation in this program. In order to be
eligible for the full stipend, the PTLP participants must:
-
full participation in the training sessions
-
document collaboration for at least one hour
each month
-
develop a lesson or other instructional
activity that infuses technology and try it out with students
-
plan and conduct one professional
development activity (minimum of one hour)
-
provide a topic for a discussion forum in the
Blackboard class site
-
either write an article for the PTLP
newsletter or develop a bulletin board with a technology
topic
-
work two hours per week in the open lab
(students only)
