KTIP/TPA FAQ

FAQ’S FOR INTERNS/FIRST YEAR TEACHERS:
• What is KTIP?
o Kentucky Teacher Internship Program which is a mentoring/evaluation program for first year teachers in Kentucky.

• What is TPA?
o Teacher Performance Assessment replaces the traditional KTIP mentoring program and all interns must successfully complete the KTIP/TPA program to become certified.

• How long is an internship?
o The length of an internship is one year in which the committee observes the intern’s progress.

FAQ’S FOR MENTORS:

• What is TPA training and who does it pertain to?
o It replaces the traditional KTIP training.  All Resource Teachers and Teacher Educators must be retrained if they have not been trained since Summer 2007.

• When are the TPA training sessions?

• Training sessions are scheduled throughout the summer of 2009.  For a listing of specific training sessions use the link listed below:

• What are the requirements prior to TPA training?

o All persons attending must complete the KTIP Face to Face training homework and bring a copy of the confirmation page as your ticket for admission to the KTIP/TPA training session.  The homework can be found at http://www.kyeducators.org/courses/courses.aspx and you will need to select course number KTIP 200-03.

GENERAL FAQ’S:

• What is a tuition waiver?

o Teacher Educators who mentor an intern for an entire school year qualify for six credit hours of tuition waived.  Use the attached link to view the complete tuition waiver policy. http://www.nku.edu/~education/docs/resteach_tuition_wai.pdf

• How is NKU involved with KTIP/TPA?

o NKU serves as a liaison between the school districts and the Educational Professional Standards Board.  Jill Niemeyer is the Regional Director over 25 districts and is responsible for assigning Teacher Educators to Interns.  Each district has a district coordinator assigned.  For additional questions contact the coordinator in your district.
