The Teacher Education Program at NKU attempts to provide students with the best possible practicum experience, including at least 150 clock-hours of field experience before entering student teaching. As Admission Practicum Coordinator, I place students in local public schools for the initial practicum, where they become actively involved with P-12 students under the supervision of qualified teachers and University Supervisors. During this admission practicum, students begin developing a digital professional teaching portfolio, called an “ePortfolio”, to display examples of their best work. Using a format such as a website or PowerPoint, students collect “artifacts” as evidence of growth over time in professional skills and knowledge.
As an academic advisor in the COEHS Advising Center, I help students access information about their program curriculum, connect them to the appropriate resources, and provide the advising support needed for success in their teacher education program.
