The Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership
All positions are tenure track. Salary and benefits are competitive. Positions begin August, 2012 unless otherwise noted. CHAIRPERSON – DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING, SOCIAL WORK AND LEADERSHIP: We seek an idealistic yet pragmatic person to serve as chair (tenure track, rank open) of a dynamic, growing department. We want someone who would relish the opportunity to collaborate with talented faculty to rethink how we prepare human service professionals for the 21st century workplace. Our goal is to enhance our graduates’ potential by helping them meld theory and practice to become more effective agents for improving the human condition in our region and beyond.
Qualifications include a predisposition toward creative and innovative thinking about the nature of effective teaching and leadership; scholarship, teaching experience and an earned doctorate in one of the following areas: social work, counseling, or educational leadership; a commitment to actively engage and support colleagues in their teaching, research and engagement activities; a record of successful collaboration among diverse programs, community partners and other campus and college units; experience with management of departmental budgets to effectively allocate human and fiscal resources to advance the programs’ missions; evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to articulate a vision for the department within a learner-centered regional institution.

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP, Ed.D. Rank Open: We are looking for idealistic yet pragmatic faculty (tenure track, rank open, one assistant director) who would relish the opportunity to participate in redefining doctoral education for fully employed and experienced P-20 education and community leaders. Our "learning associates" (we don’t have just “students”) already know much about the practical, real-life aspects of educational leadership. SOCIAL WORK ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (2 Positions): The Social Work program at NKU announces the availability of two Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty positions. Candidates must have an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and an earned doctorate in social work (ABD considered with confirmed dissertation defense date). Candidates with teaching interests in quantitative research, human behavior in the social environment, and/or social policy formulation and analysis are being sought. The Social Work faculty is currently engaged in community-based projects with children and families experiencing homelessness, and with military veterans. Applicants with interest in or experience with these populations would find exciting collaborative research prospects and teaching opportunities at NKU. Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, working collaboratively with colleagues, engaging in scholarly activity, engaging in community and university service, and participating in outreach activities. COUNSELOR EDUCATION ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: The program expects the faculty member to provide collaborative leadership for the counseling program and to instruct, supervise, and mentor students in counselor education. The assignment may include course instruction in both the graduate and undergraduate programs, supervision of practicum and internship, and mentorship of students in general courses, clinical mental health courses, and school courses. The faculty member will advise graduate students in counselor education and serve on committees, maintain a record of scholarly productivity by initiating research leading to publication and participate in professional associations and activities to enhance professional development of counselors at the local, state, and national levels. The faculty member will also serve the public and constituencies of the department, college, and university as approved/assigned. This additional faculty line follows the successful search in Spring 2011.
Preference will be given to applicants who completed a doctorate in Counselor Education (ABD will be considered) from CACREP-accredited programs and who have: (a) post-master’s experience in school counseling and/or mental health counseling with children in schools, (b) experience in teaching and/or working as a school counselor, or experience as a clinical mental health counselor having supervised practicing clinicians, (c) experience with CACREP accreditation, (d) demonstrated awareness of issues affecting diverse populations, and (e) membership in ACA or its affiliated organizations. Prior university teaching and evidence of successful scholarship is preferred. Candidates with dual experience in school counseling and as a clinical mental health counselor will be given preference. Candidates possessing the ability to supervise/instruct within the school counseling program, and/or within the Clinical Mental Health program, will be given preference. HEALTH/WELLNESS EDUCATION ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: We are looking for a dynamic faculty member eager to teach, mentor, and advise the next generation of teachers. Candidates must have an earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Health Education or related field from an accredited institution with clear demonstration of skills in lifetime wellness; evidence of successful college teaching experience and/or clinical experience; record of/or potential for scholarly activity; potential to secure external funding; and significant skill in the use of emerging educational technologies specifically related to the delivery of high quality online instruction. Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate health content courses (e.g., personal health/wellness, community health, drug & alcohol education, sexuality education, introduction to health education, etc…), disciplinary content and pedagogy courses, P-12 health education methods courses, and supervise practicum students and student teachers. All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate continuous activity in defined scholarly areas, and a willingness to involve and mentor undergraduate students in research and public engagement projects. Candidates will also be expected to serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and provide service to the profession and community.

ATHELTIC TRAINING ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: We are looking for a dynamic faculty member to teach, mentor, and advise in the CAATE accredited undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program. Responsibilities include: directing elements of the athletic training program, teaching undergraduate athletic training content courses, and supervise practicum and intern students. The successful candidate will teach 9 credits/semesters and receive 3 credits hours of release for administrative duties. Teaching areas include: upper extremity evaluation, head and spine evaluation, rehabilitation, therapeutic modalities, and clinical education courses. Qualifications: doctorate in Athletic Trainer or related field (ABD with date of completion considered); experience in college teaching in CAATE approved program; minimum two years BOC Certification; Kentucky State Licensed or eligible; and Knowledge of CAATE accreditation process. Clinical Instructor Educator (CIE) experience preferred. All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate continuous activity in a defined scholarly areas and a willingness to mentor and involve undergraduate students in research and public engagement projects. EXERCISE SCIENCE ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: We are looking for a dynamic faculty member eager to teach, mentor, and advise the next generation of exercise science students. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in exercise science or related field from an accredited institution with clear demonstration of skills in clinical exercise physiology (ABD considered). Evidence of successful college teaching experience and/or clinical experience; record of/or potential for scholarly activity; potential to secure external funding; and understanding and skill in the use of ACSM guidelines for healthy and clinical populations. Teaching responsibilities involve teaching undergraduate exercise science courses in the area of clinical exercise physiology (e.g., clinical exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, testing and prescription for special populations, etc…). All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate continuous activity in defined scholarly areas, and a willingness to involve and mentor undergraduate students in research and public engagement projects. A record of scholarly work, active participation in professional organizations, and experience supervising practicum students and student teachers are preferred. Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; supervising field experiences; working collaboratively with colleagues in online and on-campus courses in urban/rural/suburban field-based programs; engaging in scholarly activity; assisting with academic advising; engaging in community and university service; supporting and participating in the outreach activities of NKU's Program of Distinction, CINSAM, the Center for Integrative Natural Sciences and Mathematics (http://cinsam.nku.edu/), through course teaching, trainings, and programs for P-12 students.

We are looking for a special faculty member eager to teach, mentor, and advise the next generation of teachers. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in instructional technology, curriculum & instruction, or related field (ABD considered). Knowledge and experience in the use of emerging technology and applications to enhance teaching and learning in P-16 settings is required. Preference will be given to applicants with experience that includes P-12 classroom teaching and college teaching both online and on-campus. Ability to work collaboratively with campus-based and school-based colleagues is important. Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning and/or curriculum & instruction; working collaboratively with colleagues in online and on-campus courses to enhance instruction through the use of technology; supervising students in field placements; engaging in scholarly activity; assisting with academic advising; engaging in community and university service; and participating in the outreach activities.
