Athletic Training Admission Requirements
Choose XATH Pre-Athletic Training as your major
Students interested in applying to the Athletic Training Program must choose XATH (Pre-Athletic Training) as their major.
Minimum of a “C” Grade in Pre-professional coursework
Pre-Athletic Training Students (XATH) must complete each of the following courses with a “C” for ATP admission:

Sophomore Rank
The earliest semester students can apply to the professional degree program is the fall semester of their sophomore year. Students must have accumulated a minimum of 30 credit hours for ATP admission.
2.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average
XATH Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA for ATP admission.
ATP 280 Pre-Athletic Training
This course is taking during the application semester (Fall). Students complete a directed 50 hours of observation in common athletic training employment settings such as high school athletics, college athletics, and rehabilitation clinics. During the observation students will be evaluated by their supervising athletic trainer. The evaluation provides a composite score on a 4 point scale. Students must attain a minimum of a 2.5 for program admission. To view the evaluation form please click on the evaluation form link.

NKUATP Technical Standards for Mental and Physical Performance
The technical standards are the minimum requirements for mental and physical performance necessary to practice as an Athletic Trainer. As part of meeting these standards students are required to complete a Physical Examination by a qualified health professional. Hepatitis B Vaccination
Students are required to present documentation of their Hepatitis B vaccine prior to participating in clinical course work. The vaccine must be obtained at the student’s expense.
Primary Health Insurance
Students are required to have primary health insurance for program admission and retention. The student will be required to present proof as part of the application process.
Professional Liability Insurance
Upon admission to the program students are required to purchase professional liability insurance from the NKU provider. The insurance has an annual cost of $14.00. Professional Liability Insurance is for the protection of the student and must be maintained throughout program enrollment.
CPR Certification
Students must present current certification (at time of application) in CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Certification must be maintained throughout the program.
Uniform purchase
Students are required to purchase a uniform prior to the first day of classes for the first professional semester. Uniforms must be worn for all clinical course work.
