Testing and Disability Services

FALL 2007

WELCOME

From the Director: Welcome to the NKU fall 2007 semester!  Disability Services has been busy planning over the summer and we have some exciting new resources to assist students registered with our office.  The first new resource kicks off right away with our College Success Workshops.  These hour long trainings have dates listed on our back page (and website) and are targeted to help you start the semester and/or your college career on the right path.

Our second new service, online exam
scheduling, will roll out in mid-September.  Convenient exam scheduling with DS has been something students have asked for over the years and we have contracted with an outside company to make it happen.  Watch for more details for the DS online exam scheduler.

Whether you are new to NKU or a returning
student, I invite you to stop by Disability
Services UC 320 (www.nku.edu/~disability ) and talk to our staff about how we can support you on your journey at NKU.  Remember luck doesn’t just happen . . . it is the combination of
preparation meeting opportunity.  Do all you can to be prepared!

Accommodation Letters Are Ready: If you have given us your fall 2007 class schedule, your
accommodation letters are ready for you to pick up and deliver to your faculty. If you haven’t given us a class schedule, please do so as soon as possible.

Exam Proctoring:  If you use our exam
proctoring service, please remember to sign the exam calendar to reserve a seat for proctoring in the Disability Services suite at least two days before your exams.  The calendar is in UC 320. Soon this service will be available online.

Navigating on Campus

Construction and More Construction: NKU is building a better campus but it will help you to know where the obstacles might be - the Bank of Kentucky Center will host its first graduation in Spring 2008 and the  Student Union will be completed in August 2008.   A new project is a parking garage adjacent to the Bank of Kentucky Center.

The Roundabout:

It may take some getting used to and experience, but the roundabout is to improve getting around campus.  Instead of a four way stoplight, the roundabout will permit traffic to be moving without stopping at the University Drive and Nunn Drive intersections.  Be careful and follow the directional signs as driving through this roundabout will take some driving skills.  If you are not up to the challenge, you may drive onto campus with the traditional stop signs by entering off  Martha Lane Collins Drive.

Getting onto Campus:   Plan on  arriving on campus early to get a parking space so you will not be late for your class. Parking is difficult the first couple weeks of classes and will get better as the semester progresses.

Accessible Parking:   If you have a state issued Accessible Parking permit you  must also have an NKU parking pass for campus parking.  With these two permits you may park in any space (except reserved) in any parking lot.  Accessible parking spaces are on a first-come first-served basis so if you come late or move in the middle of the day you may not find a space.

Ride the Bus?: Northern Kentucky University has partnered with the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) to establish U-PASS - free, unlimited riding on all TANK buses for all NKU students, faculty, and staff. It's easy - just show your valid NKU All-Card to the driver when boarding the bus, then sit back and enjoy the free ride! For more info - http://parking.nku.edu/transport_alternate.html

 Staying Connected on Campus

Plan Now for Spring 2008

Super Priority Registration

Time to start planning ahead for the Spring 2008 semester!  As a student registered with Disability Services, you are eligible for Super Priority registration.  This means you will have the opportunity to select your Spring 2008 semester classes a day before the seniors.

Make an appointment now to meet with your academic advisor to discuss class options for the Spring semester.  Once the schedule of classes is available, you may then build your class schedule.

Remember to schedule an hour between classes so that you can take your exams and not have to worry about missing other classes when you are testing.
