THE
SEMINIFEROUS
TUBULES MAKE UP THE TESTES. THEY EMPTY
INTO THE EPIDIDYMIS,
A "C" SHAPED STRUCTURE THAT ENGULFS THE TUBULES. THE EPIDIDYMIS NARROWS
INTO THE VAS DEFERENS.
THE SCROTUM IS
THE SAC THAT HOLDS THE TESTES.
THIS
IS A SEMINIFEROUS TUBULE
WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE TESTES. AS THE CELLS MOVE INWARD, THEY MATURE.
THE INNERMOST CELLS ARE SPERMATIDS
(NOTE THE TAILS IN THE CENTER).
NOTICE
THE TRIANGULAR CLUSTERS OF CELLS BETWEEN THE SEMINIFEROUS TUBULES.
THEY ARE THE INTERSTITIAL CELLS OF LEYDIG.
THESE CELLS PRODUCE ANDROGENS, PRIMARILY TESTOSTERONE.
To
the right is a cross section through the penis. Note the three columns
of tissue. The upper two are corpora cavernosa and the lower is corpus
spongiosum. The urethra runs through corpus spongiosum.
To
the right is the corpus spongiosum,
the lower of the three columns of tissue that make up the penis.
The urethra runs through this column.

This
low magnification image of a section from the human penis shows the urethra,
surrounded by the corpus spongiosum. The latter is composed of irregular
cavernous spaces containing blood.
This
low magnification of a section from the human penis shows part of the corpus
cavernosum and the tunica albuginea, which surrounds it. The tunica
albuginea is a thick layer of dense regular
connective
tissue.
