COSTA RICA

COSTA RICA NATURAL HISTORY (BIO 235)

NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY

(SPRING 2011)

Welcome to our pictorial guide of our adventures in Costa Rica!

Our class studied aspects of the history, political system, geography, climate, and culture of Costa Rica, in addition to its rich biodiversity.  The highlight of the course was a 9 day trip during Spring Break 2011 to this beautiful Latin American country.

The following web pages describe many of the things we saw and did during our field trip.  Note that the individual pages were constructed by the students in the class, as one of their graded assignments.  We hope you enjoy their descriptions of different aspects of this trip.

This class was taught by Dr. Greg Dahlem (entomologist) and Dr. Richard Durtsche (herpetologist).

We would like to thank Dr. Debra Pearce and the Department of Biological Sciences, and the Office of Education Abroad at NKU for all their advice and assistance.  Ileana Rodriguez has been so helpful and supportive of our work in Costa Rica, we would like to send a special "muchas gracias" to her and her family at the Punta Marenco Lodge.  We would also like to thank Cabet Travel for making all the local arrangements for us.  They did a wonderful job and we highly recommend them to others traveling to Costa Rica! (Cabet Travel e-mail: cabet1@racsa.co.cr ).
