Journalism Minor
The journalism
program is designed to provide students with reporting and writing skills along
with the historical, legal and ethical underpinnings of journalism in a free
society. Recognizing that the flow of news information is changing, students
will learn new ways to seek and disseminate information while they learn the
skills necessary to organize and present information easily to the general
public. NKU journalism majors are located in a top media market where they can
fulfill internship requirements, although some majors accept internships in
other locales as well. Being in the Greater Cincinnati media market also
provides a pool of high caliber professionals from which we draw adjunct and
guest faculty members.
Philosophically, the major recognizes
that in a society which values free speech, members of the profession serve
as a teacher, as a preacher, as a watchdog, as a investigator, and as a
keeper of the day's events. It is a calling as much as it is a profession. Students must have scored a 20 or
higher on the English portion of the ACT before they may enroll in JOU
130.
