Fossil Identification

Fossils are any indication of past life. The typical materials being studied in this exercise are shells and skeletons. The organisms lived in a marine environment that existed in this region more than 400 million years ago. The web page http://www.uky.edu/OtherOrgs/KPS/pages/fossilphoto.html has excellent photos of Kentucky fossils. The Fossils of Kentucky web page http://www.uky.edu/KGS/coal/webfossl/fosslbig.htm can help with identification of shapes or descriptive terms accessed through “Fossil Identification Key”
