Professor Hicks Named
2008 Cincinnati Chemist of the Year!

In a recent announcenment by the Cincinnati Section of the American Chemical Society, Professor Vern Hicks was named as the 2008 Cincinnati Chemist of the Year. Dr. Hicks has been a member of the NKU faculty since 1972 and has been the only physical chemist the department has ever had. Dr. Hick's award recognizes his contributions in the classroom and community. Dr. Hicks has been involved with countless P-12 students, visiting local shools or bringing them to campus to behold the joys of chemistry. In addition, for years Dr. Hicks has regularly held workshops for area teachers. Almost every student passing through the chemistry department has heard of Dr. Hicks. His classroom antics are the thing of legend, including numerous demonstrations, the distribution of home-made "mole" cookies, and an enthusiasm that is infectious.

Dr. Hicks will receive his award at the January meeting the Cincinnati Section of the American Chemical Society. The meeting will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Sharonville Convention Center. The evening begins with a social hour at 6:00 PM and dinner at 7:00 PM. Awards will be presented at 8:00 PM. Registration and more information can be found on-line at the CINTACS web site (link).
