Russell Group Travels
to National Organic Symposium
Sara Hitchcock, Brice Dunlap and Dr. Russell recently attended
the The National Organic Chemistry Symposium. The symposium is
consdered the premier event sponsored by the Division
of Organic
Chemistry
of
the American
Chemical Society.
Held June 3 - 7 on the Duke University
campus, the symposium presented a distinguished roster of 13 invited
speakers including 1990 Nobel Laureate E.J. Corey. The event was
highlighted by the presentation of Sam Danishefsky, the 2007 Roger
Adams Awardee. The
invited speakers were chosen to represent the current state-of-the-art
in the field of organic chemistry, both in terms of breadth and
creative
advances.
The Russell Group members met up with ten other undergraduates
to present their research to date as par of the NSF sponsored REU
site in theoretically interesting molecules. The students will
meet again in eight weeks to present their results from the summer
