CHE 120L — Calorimetry and Hess's Law

Objectives

The objective of this experiment is to use calorimetry (with the MeasureNet™ system) and Hess’s Law to determine the enthalpy change for the reaction of anhydrous MgSO4 with water to form MgSO4·7H2O.  Before coming to class read the sections on “Enthalpy”, “Calorimetry”, “ Standard Enthalpy of Formation and Reaction”, and “Heat of Solution and Dilution” in your text book.
