Degrees and Programs

Catalog Information

Either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree may be obtained with a major in chemistry. The B.S. degree is generally obtained by students who plan to work in industry or attend graduate school. The B.A. degree is recommended for those students who seek certification to teach chemistry at the secondary level or who are also majoring in another field. The Bachelor of Arts degree (Biochemistry Track) is interdisciplinary with courses required in chemistry and biology. This major is well suited for students planning further study of biochemistry or molecular biology. Pre-professional programs offered through the chemistry department include pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, and pre-veterinary medicine.

The Department of Chemistry at NKU is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Students receiving the B.S. degree can be awarded ACS certification with their degree.
