NKU Professor Named Cincinnati Chemist of the Year
Professor Vern Hicks, a member of the NKU faculty for more than 35 years, was named 2008 Cincinnati Chemist of the Year by the Cincinnati section of the American Chemical Society.
Dr. Hicks was hired by the NKU Chemistry Department in 1972 and has been the only physical chemist on the staff. The award recognizes his contributions in the classroom and community.
Over the years, Dr. Hicks has been involved with countless P-12 students by visiting local schools or bringing them to campus to behold the joys of chemistry. He has also conducted workshops for area teachers.
Almost every student passing through the chemistry department at NKU has heard of Dr. Hicks. His enthusiasm is infectious and his classroom demonstrations are a campus legend.
