Pre-Major Requirements

While there are no specific requirements for declaration of a chemistry major, there are some requirements for registering for General Chemistry I, the first course in the major.

The prerequisite is high school chemistry and a minimum score of 20 on the ACT math
section or equivalent. The alternative requirements are a C or better in Introduction to Chemistry (CHE 102) or placement by the department.

Students can contact the department to schedule a Challenge Test if they had high school chemistry, scored less than 20 on the ACT math section and want to try to test into General Chemistry I.
