Educational Outreach Projects
The NKU Chemistry Department takes pride in the educational outreach projects it conducts on campus and in the community.
Several of our faculty members have published work that promotes chemistry education. They also share their time and expertise in community education projects with local schools and libraries.
One of our faculty members, Dr. Vernon Hicks, was named 2008 Cincinnati Chemist of the Year for his community outreach endeavors.
Our community education projects include:
-
Working with middle school and high school science teachers to develop classroom learning materials
-
Conducting outreach activities in local libraries as part of National Chemistry Week
-
Serving as mentors for middle school and high school science alliances
-
Judging middle school science fairs
-
Participating in science workshops and summer camps
These activities have been funded by different sources, including the NKU Center for Integrative Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CINSAM), Kentucky Department of Education and Flinn Scientific.
