Aug 18, 2009 - At its 51st Annual Meeting in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 8, Cincinnati attorney Martin S. Pinales received the Robert C. Heeney Memorial Award, the most prestigious honor awarded by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). This award is given annually to the one criminal defense lawyer who best exemplifies the goals and values of the Association and the legal profession.

Pinales, who served as NACDL President from 2006 to 2007, currently serves as Chair of NACDL's Lawyer's Assistance Strike Force and served as the CJA Panel Advisor to the Defender Services Committee of the United States Judicial Conference. Pinales is also a Trustee for the Foundation for Criminal Justice.

Pinales, listed in "Best Lawyers in America," is a criminal defense lawyer in private practice in Cincinnati, Ohio. He will be joining law firm of Strauss and Troy this fall. He has been an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati and an Adjunct Professor at NKU Chase College of Law. He has lectured across the country at the National Criminal Defense College, Trial Practice Institute, the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy, the Public Defender Academy, and numerous state, local and federal bar associations. His publications include Criminal Defense Techniques, Chapter 6, 'Representing a Witness Before the Grand Jury,' (Matthew Bender, 1990).

A member of the bar of the State of Ohio, Pinales is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Salmon P. Chase College of Law, 1968. He is also admitted to practice before multiple federal trial and appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States.
