May 04, 2009 - Chase third-year student Rob Vonckx recently won acquittal for Indigent Defense Clinic client Kevin Thornton. Thornton was charged with disorderly conduct after police arrived to break up a fight at a super bowl party held at a local hotel. Although Thornton was not involved in the fight and was not acting disorderly, the police tased Thornton and charged him with disorderly conduct. Rob was able to successfully undermine the credibility of the officer's account under cross-examination, resulting in Mr. Thornton's acquittal.

Vonckx worked on Kevin Thornton's case as part of his involvement with the Ohio Justice and Policy Center's Constitutional Defense Clinic. The Clinic is overseen by OJPC Executive Director and Visiting Chase Professor David Singleton.
