Chase Visiting Professor Presents Clason Lecture
Visiting Professor David A. Singleton

Apr 01, 2009 - Chase Visiting Professor David Singleton was recently invited to give the Clason Lecture at the Western New England College of Law. The title of his talk was 'Diligence Alone Won't Do: Representing Indigent Clients Zealously.' The talk was in response to the growing movement nationally for states to water down lawyer professional responsibility rules by taking out language requiring attorneys to 'zealously' represent their clients and replacing it with language requiring lawyers to use 'reasonable diligence' instead. Professor Singleton argued why this new language short changes poor clients who need lawyers to give it their all in representing them.

Singleton serves as Visiting Professor of Law at NKU Chase, where he teaches the Constitutional Litigation Clinic. The Clinic gives third- and fourth-year law students the opportunity to represent OJPC clients in federal and state court proceedings. Singleton is also the Executive Director of the Ohio Justice and Policy Center (OJPC), a nonprofit, nonpartisan, public interest law firm in Cincinnati.

Since 1988 the Clason Speaker Series has provided a venue for legal experts to present works-in-progress on current legal topics through lectures to the Western New England College School of Law community. The series is named after Charles R. Clason, a prominent local attorney and member of the U.S. House of Representatives who held the position of Dean of the School of Law from 1954 to 1970.
