Jan 20, 2009 - Chase Professor Jennifer Anglim Kreder was recently quoted by the Associated Press in the article, 'Stakes Rise for Nazi-looted Art as Lawyers Move In.' In the article by Louise Nordstrom, Professor Kreder discusses her support of lawyer involvement in securing restitution for victims of Nazi art looting.

The article focuses on the recovery of a particular painting by German expressionist Emil Nolde that had been owned by Jewish businessman Otto Deutsch until he was forced to flee Nazi Germany and leave all of his belongings behind. The painting was believed to have been destroyed and in 1962, Deutsch's family was paid $1,000 in restitution by the German government. However, the painting has since resurfaced in a Swedish museum and Deutsch's heirs are seeking to recover additional compensation.

While some argue that lawyer involvement only serves to complicate the restitution process, Professor Kreder states in the article that, 'If lawyers weren't able to take the case there would be no restitution at all.'
