Dean Dennis Honabach greets a student and his family at the 1L family outing.
Aug 18, 2008 - Chase welcomed its 2008-09 incoming class with a family outing at Banklick Woods Park on Sunday, August 10. Sunny weather warmed an impressive turnout of over 200 students and family members. Entering students received complimentary NKU Chase T-shirts from board members of the Chase Alumni Association. They also had the opportunity to meet faculty, staff and alumni while mingling over the barbecue.
Monday morning marked the first day of class for the fulltime 1L's. The members of the evening division began their studies the previous week. All first year students begin their studies by taking Legal Analysis and Problem Solving (LAPS), a preparatory course designed to introduce them to the basic skills and concept of law school study. Regular classes begin on August 18 for both divisions.
On Wednesday, August 13, incoming students gathered again for a picnic sponsored by the NKU Chase Law Library. Associate Dean Michael Whiteman and his library staff grilled food for hungry 1L's taking a noon break from their LAPS course. They fired up the grill up again for evening students, which provided a nice reprieve after a long day of work and legal studies.
The goal of these events is to foster a sense of community among the incoming students and to assist them in their transition into law school. “We want to help our students forge strong connections with faculty, staff and their fellow students,” said Dean Dennis Honabach. “We believe NKU Chase has a great deal to offer our students. We want them to feel comfortable working with us so that they are ready to take advantage of the strengths of our program.”
