Faculty Workshop Series: Norman L. Greene
Norman L. Greene
Norman L. Greene

Nov 03, 2009 - Norman L. Greene, partner at Schoeman, Updike and Kaufman, LLP, in New York, will speak about Caperton. More about the case can be reviewed by clicking on the link below.

Norman Greene's publications and presentations focus on a number of topics, particularly the rule of law or judicial reform, professionalism (including civility and conscience), and criminal justice reform. In brief: How may our legal and extra-legal (including in the work place) conduct and choices be improved so as to make this a more just society and our careers as lawyers more fulfilling? He has organized or made presentations on some of these subjects at a number of events, including at bar conventions or panels, at law schools, before business groups, and at government hearings, including at the Kentucky Bar Conventions in 2006 and 2009, and a Kentucky Rule of Law Day held at Kentucky State University in 2009. Although a full list is available on request, his most recent articles, which are principally in the field of rule of law and judicial reform, appear in the Denver University Law Review (2009), Fordham Urban Law Journal (2007), Idaho Law Review (2007); Mercer Law Review (2005); Albany Law Review (2005) and 2009 (forthcoming); the New York State Bar Association's Government, Law and Policy Journal (2005); and Court Review (2007). (In particular, the Denver article considers the rule of law as applied internationally and its linkage to international economic development and draws important parallels and conclusions for domestic judicial reform and the domestic economy.) He is active in law reform organizations (such as the Uniform Law Commission (www.nccusl.org) and the American Law Institute (www.ali.org)) and various bar associations; and he has held many bar leadership positions, including serving on the Executive Committee of the New York City Bar Association and chairing three committees there. He also serves on the council for CEELI of the American Bar Association's Rule of Law Initiative (www.abanet.org/rol), the ABA's technical legal assistance program for central and eastern Europe. A graduate of New York University School of Law and Columbia College, he is a partner in the New York City law firm of Schoeman, Updike & Kaufman, LLP, 60 East 42nd Street, New York, N.Y. 10165-0006, 212-661-5030, ngreene@schoeman.com.

Faculty interested in attending should RSVP to Dean Ogburn by Thursday, October 29.
