Welcome to Cynthia's Motorcycle Page.

Today is Saturday, 11-Oct-2008 14:24:50 EDT

I hope you didn't land here because you were looking for photos of naked women and motorcycles. You'll have to head elsewhere for those. Here, you'll find a real woman who loves motorcycles, owns three, lusts for about a dozen more, and wishes she had more time to ride, ride, just ride. :-) So, surf a while, email me if you want to talk, and spend more time riding your motorcycle (or sign up for a motorcycle safety course if you don't have one but want one...you'll be hooked you'll find a way to start including motorcycles in your life).

Thanks for visiting!

My TDM 850 (& my motorcycling history)
For my husband Jon, who has always cared more *that* I ride than *what* I ride. So now I have a big, red, torquey, fast TDM 850. Thank you Jon!

Motorcycling in Northern Kentucky / Greater Cincinnati
I'd like to compile a list of all the motorcycle information in my local area. If you know of a site that should be listed here, email cain@one.net and put Local Motorcycle Links in the subject line. Thanks!

My TDM and my motorcycling history.
On Friday 11 October 1996, I started smiling and the smile hasn't faded yet! I picked up a 1992 TDM 850. This bike is a blast to ride! Look at this photo of my new TDM and me (72KB JPEG) for an example of what happens when you let your husband's friends put your photos into photoshop for you! (And this is the one *without* the Letterman toothgap and the Dave Jetter pot-belly!) And see what happens a friend teaches you how to scan an image and manipulate it in Photoshop! (37 KB JPEG)
Thanks Matt!

Jon and I have made many improvements to my TDM. Here are links to some of the vendors to my favorite parts.

And here are some places we are shopping for future projects... TDM links

Here's a photo (not mine) of the 2nd motorcycle I bought (and still own).
Alek's RD page It was a great bike (the throttle truly works!) but I retired it when I bought my 3rd bike...a 1982 BMW R65. (For sale. Excellent condition. email me for more info.)
I've thought about getting the RD out of storage, I just haven't figured out how to motivate my favorite mechanic (aka my husband Jon) yet!

There is a long list of motorcycles I'd like to buy...
The Suzuki Bandit 1200 is one of them.

What I'd REALLY like (my birthday is 4 September in case you're wondering what it get me...) is a BMW R1100RS. Any model year is okay; it doesn't have to be new!

My husband Jon
Imagine the obligatory animated motorcycle here.
Jon has always been very supportive of my motorcycling interest. All women should be as lucky as I am. We've been married since 1984 and we stopped keeping count of our motorcycle collection when the tally entered the double digits! He doesn't care *what* I ride, he is just happy *that* I ride my own motorcycles. Thank you Jon! His current street bike is an '89 FJ1200.

The Pony Express Tour 1998
I was not able to ride in the Pony Express Tour 1998 this summer. :-( It is a worthy cause that I do support with my wallet and my spirit. I encourage you to do the same.
During the summer of 1998, the Pony Express Tour hit the road again, uniting a coalition of motorcyclists, representing every age, ethnic and racial group, aboard motorcycles of every brand, who want to make a difference. This time the goal is to raise at least $500,000 in the quest to eradicate breast cancer. The Tour will cross the country following a route through 44 states and Canada. Fifteen thousand miles after leaving the Pony Express Stables on June 20 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the Tour will conclude on August 16 in Dallas, Texas. Visit the Pony Express Tour 1998 web site for more information.
All of the money raised goes to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to fight breast cancer. The Komen Foundation's published mission: eradicating breast cancer as a life threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. The Komen Foundation sponsors the popular Race for the Cure, the largest series of 5K and 1 mile run/fitness walks.
Some breast cancer facts from the Pony Express web site:

  • Every 12 minutes, someone dies from breast cancer.
  • Breast cancer is the #1 killer of women between the ages of 34-55.
  • In 1997, 1000 men were diagnosed with breast cancer; 300 died.
  • 75% of all breast cancers occur in women with no known risk factors. All women are at risk; and one's risk increases with advancing age.
  • There is no known cure for advanced breast cancer. Detection of breast cancer at an early stage provides a greater chance of cure and more treatment options. When the disease is confined to the breast, the 5-year survival rate is 94%.
  • More than 1.7 million American women with a history of breast cancer are alive today.

Information for beginners and anyone else who knows there is ALWAYS more to learn about motorcycling.
Many women have emailed me to ask for advice I might have for beginners. My first response is "take the MSF course". So, here's how to find the local MSF courses as well as the ones in your area.
I've thought about making a FAQ section for this page. Until I do, I'll provide this link to someone else's beginner FAQ. It is excellent. Beginner Motorcyclist Information

Another nugget of advice is to learn all you can about your motorcycle and to surround yourself with positive support for motorcycling. Here is a link to Carl Paukstis's mailing list roundup . He maintains a list of all motorcycle related mailing lists. (Note: At times, the server hosting Carl's list doesn't allow entry. If this happens, try back in a few days. It is well worth it.)

I welcome email from anyone about motorcycles! Write me anytime at cain@one.net

Have you ever taken a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course?
I took my first one in 1981 at the Motorcycle Rider Program at SIU in Carbondale, IL and another as a refresher a couple of years ago at NKU.
Northern Kentucky: NKU Community Education NKU offers both the beginner and experienced rider courses. For a schedule of the motorcycle rider courses, scroll all the way to the bottom of the Schedule page.
Cincinnati, OH: I am looking for a link to the courses taught in Cincinnati, Ohio area. The courses are taught through the Oaks Community College system (Scarlett Oaks, etc.) Look in the phone book.

Some favorite motorcycle links, in no particular order:

Lesson One: *Never* rework your web page during riding season!
Lesson Two: If you forget lesson one, don't overwrite your original, *working* page on the server without a backup!
Lesson Three: While learning from lessons one and two, get your motorcycle page working as fast as possible when it is cold & rainy (or dark) outside. Leave all the cool, new stuff for truly horrible winter days. :-)
Current status: Applying Lesson Three (18 February 1999)

In case you're wondering, when I state that I am a "motorcyclist, not a biker", I only mean that I'm not the kind of person the media stereotypes as a motorcycle owner. When I go to a motorcycle rally, I keep my t-shirt on and dry!
This page has been visited 91210 times since I began counting on February 15, 1998.
And why did I add the counter?
    Hits history:
March to October 1997: less than 128 to 222 hits/month
    November 1997: 473 hits
    December 1997: 1,181 hits
    January 1998: 1007 hits
