Cynthia's Gardening Page
Welcome to Cynthia's Garden Page
Most of my gardening work has been with the Tri Beta Butterfly Garden on the Northern Kentucky University campus in Highland Heights, KY. Please visit The Tri Beta Butterfly Garden Webpage for information on butterfly gardening.
I am also a Master Gardener in training - I am in the process of completing my 50 hours of volunteer work.
My Virtual Newstand
- Fine Gardening Magazine I have learned much from this magazine over the years. If you have never seen it, please pick up a hardcopy the next time you are near a real newsstand and you won't regret it.
My Virtual Catalog Pile
What garden site would be complete without Catalogs? I'll bet you have a pile by your favorite reading spot right now!
- Niche Gardens, a mail order nursery in North Carolina with an online catalog. It is one of Lois Cain's favorite nurseries. She's lucky enough to shop there in person.
- Select Seeds Antique Flowers Marilyn Barlow has a wonderful selection of seeds for sale. I have been highly satisfied with the quality of her seeds.
- Prairie Nursery
This is a must-have catalog for butterfly gardeners who wish to use native plants.
- High Country Gardens Many of their photos show the entire plant rather than just the flower. It is much better to see what the *plant* will look like when designing since flowers are only present 5-15 percent of the year!
- White Flower Farm Great photos & culture info.
- Munchkin Nursery
- Viette Nursery
- Burpee Basic garden seeds - nothing unusual here.
- Wayside Gardens This is the plant-selling arm of Park Seeds.
- Park Seeds This is the seed-selling arm of Wayside Gardens.
- Thompson-Morgan Thousands of seeds. Low germination percentage on some packets but where else can you find single color packets of 15 *different* varieties of pansies?
- Pinetree Garden Seeds Large selection of seeds for the home garden, in packet sizes you can afford (why buy 200 Rudbeckia seeds for $2.49 when you only *need* 25 or 50 for $0.80? ) I've ordered from them many times -- Excellent quality!
- Plant Delights
I've visited this nursery in NC last September. They have 6-8 open
weekends each year. They have over 6,000 plants in the display
gardens. Great health of the plants, at least at the nursery. The
owner, Tony Avent, has speaking engagements around the country & I'm
told he is an entertaining speaker. They offer about 30 different
salvias & at least 9 Sarracenia (Pitcher Plant)!! The catalog is very
descriptive but isn't packed with photos.
- Glasshouse Works
Located in Stewart, Ohio. Just a few hours away, in beautiful SE Ohio.
I've wanted to make a weekend visit to the area. There are several
nurseries in the area as well as a Bed & Breakfast overlooking the Ohio
River that caters to gardeners.
- Companion Plants Another SE Ohio nursery.
- Daydreamer Gardens Another SE Ohio nursery.
- Daydreamer Gardens Bed & Breakfast This is the place I'd like to visit this summer.
- Shepherd's Garden Seeds
- Logee's Greenhouse
-
Cyndi's Catalog of Catalogs Over 1700 catalogs! She includes Quality, Price, Service & Variety offered ratings.
