Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. -- Behind the Scenes Tour of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens

Bring your family and/or friends. Meet promptly at 9:30am at the CREW (Center for Research of Endangered Wildlife) building, which is behind the Safari Camp Picnic Grounds, for a tour of the facilities and slide show presentation about the important work that they do there. Other behind the scenes adventures are still being planned but the day should be fun for the biologists and other sane people who want to join us in our fun. There will be plenty of time after the tour to enjoy the rest of your day at the Zoo at your leisure. Zoo admission is $11.50 for Adults, $9 for Seniors, and $6 for children aged 2-12. Hosted by Mark Nienaber.

Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 3:00pm -- Picnic / Welcoming Reception for New Graduates

The Alumni Association will provide the entree. Bring your own alcoholic drinks and your favorite dessert or side dish to share with the other Alumni, the Faculty and their families. The picnic will be located at the Dietz property. They were gracious enough to offer the use of their home again our picnic. What better way to introduce the newbies to our fun times. Hosted by Evelyn and Mike Dietz and Denise Wells Byrum.
Here are the directions for those of you that did not attend previously or forgot how to get there. While travelling the on the AA Highway, take the 547 Silver Grove exit (about 7 miles from I-275 or about 3 miles from US 27) and turn right off the exit, then right onto Nelson Road. Go left to continue onto Nelson Road (or else you will end up back on the AA Highway). Continue on Nelson for about 0.7 mile but don't go over the hill. Turn left onto Dietz Lane. Go down that road and at the bottom, take the gravel road to the property. You can park in the lot area or drive over the gravel road.
[ Yahoo! Maps ]
Map of Nelson Rd
Alexandria, KY
To see the "intersection" that must be navigated after exiting the AA Highway (aka Route 9), click on the W arrow on the left side of the map. You can then see that Nelson Road is on the "entrance ramp" back on to the AA Highway.
Please join us at the Dietz property. It is only about 10 minutes south of NKU.

There are numerous ways to get involved in mentoring.
If you are interested, email Evelyn Dietz . Thank you! It is easier than you think!

  • Speak to a Biology 151 Recitation class as a member of a 2-3 person alumni panel about your school and your work experiences. This activity occurs during the spring semester every year.
This began Spring 1996 and was rated by the students as one of the best parts of the course. Remember all the questions you had as a student? Here is a chance to directly help the current NKU biology freshman.
  • Allow a student to shadow you for a day.
  • Do you want to get involved in the mentoring program but you think you live too far away? How about corresponding with students via email? Many of the students have questions about what it is like to be a ___________ (fill in the blank) or what is graduate school like? These questions and many others can be discussed in email.
