The Mathematical and Statistical Consulting Center began operation in the fall of 2001 with funding from CINSAM, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (through the Sehnert-Pugh fund), and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2004 the name of the center was changed to the Burkardt Consulting Center, in honor of Tom Burkardt, outstanding NKU alumnus of 2003, and generous supporter of the center.
In its first six years of operation, the center has been the home to over 20 student consultants, working on over 300 projects. They have assisted clients from among NKU faculty, students, departments, and administration; local schools; and area hospitals and businesses. While the center's primary mission is to help solve client problems, its other mission is pedagogical: the consultants' academic careers and job prospects have been advanced by their experiences in the center.
