NKU LANDS THREE RECRUITS FOR 2004

Norse cross country teams sign local standouts

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Three local high school standouts have signed to attend Northern Kentucky University and participate in the Norse cross country programs in 2004. They are:

•Julianne Hoekzema, one of the top runners in southwest Ohio this past season at Badin High School. A native of Fairfield, Ohio, Hoekzema qualified three times for the state cross country meet in Ohio. She earned first team All-Girls’ Greater Cincinnati League four times in cross country and set the school record in the five-kilometer run this past fall with a time of 19:24.

•Sarah Eggleston, a standout runner for Taylor (Ohio) High School. Eggleston helped Taylor win the 2002 Ohio state championship. Her top time in the five-kilometer run was 20:42.

•Adam Stoppelwerth, one of northern Kentucky’s top runners at Dixie Heights High School. Stoppelwerth was the most valuable runner for the Colonels the past two seasons, and he was named the Division I Runner of the Year in 2002. He also won the Class AAA regional championship for the second straight year this fall and finished 12th at the state meet.
