Norse junior hits .604 to be named GLVC Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Maggie Pugh has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in volleyball.

Pugh, a junior middle hitter and a graduate of Mason (Ohio) High School, recorded 31 kills and a .604 hitting percentage last week as NKU posted a 3-0 record. Pugh finished with 10 kills and a .769 hitting percentage as the Norse defeated Bellarmine University on the road, and she collected 14 kills and a .545 hitting percentage during a victory against Lewis University.

Pugh capped her week with seven kills, a .538 hitting percentage and six blocks as the Norse defeated the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in three games. Her efforts helped NKU regain the lead in the GLVC Blue Division with a 10-2 record.

NKU is ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region ratings. The top six teams in that poll will advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament in November.

NKU hits the road this weekend for a non-conference match at the University of Illinois-Springfield at 8 p.m. Friday, followed by a 4 p.m. GLVC match against Quincy University on Saturday.
