NKU TRAVELS TO EDINBORO (Pa.)

Norse to face nationally ranked Northern Colorado on Friday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will play in the Edinboro (Pa.) University Tournament this weekend, and the Norse will begin that event at noon Friday with a match against nationally ranked University of Northern Colorado.

NKU enters that match with a 14-8 overall record, while Northern Colorado is 20-2 and ranked No. 24 in the NCAA Division II poll. Northern Colorado, however, is making the transition to NCAA Division I status this season and is not eligible for the NCAA Division II Tournament.

NKU will also meet Lees-McRae College at 5 p.m. Friday, and the Norse will conclude the event Saturday with matches against Lock Haven (Pa.) University and Edinboro. Lock Haven is currently ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region poll, while Edinboro is second.

NKU is ranked No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region poll.

ROUGH SATURDAY: Whitney Boling recorded 33 kills and a .464 hitting percentage Saturday as the University of Indianapolis defeated NKU, 21-30, 22-30, 30-26, 30-21, 15-10, at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. Shaun McAllister added 21 kills for Indianapolis, which improved to 18-9 overall, 7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Greyhounds hit .733 in the fifth game to win the match and knock NKU (7-2 GLVC) out of first place in the GLVC standings.

Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville took over sole possession of first place in the GLVC with a four-game win over Quincy on Saturday. SIUE is now 18-3 overall, 6-1 in the GLVC.

Kristin Koralewski finished with 23 kills, 10 digs and a .372 hitting percentage for NKU. It marked the 11th time in the past 12 matches that Koralewski has recorded a double-double.

Koralewski ranks No. 3 in the GLVC in kills per game at 4.37, and she is No. 4 in the GLVC in hitting percentage at .348. She also ranks No. 4 in service aces in the GLVC with 0.44 sapg.

WELTER CLOSES IN ON FIFTH PLACE: NKU senior right-side hitter Cammi Welter now has 1,340 career kills. She needs just 44 kills to move past Jenny Fleissner (1,383 kills) into fifth place on NKU’s all-time career list. For the season, Welter has 308 kills.

SENIOR NIGHT ON NOV. 7: NKU will honor its three seniors - Welter, Nicole Salisbury and Sara Taylor - on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. before the Norse’s match against the University of Southern Indiana in Regents Hall.
